If you’ve ever caught sight of a small, maroon Hillman Imp in the area it’s highly likely it belongs to our IT Engineer, Adrian. As a keen motorsports enthusiast, he built the car himself, as he enjoys the odd race or two – not least at Brands Hatch!
This autumn Adrian competed at the famous race circuit in the Historic Touring Car Championship. Round 7 of 8 the championship with 2 races in wet conditions were less than ideal, but that didn’t stop him and we were delighted to hear that he came home with an outright win against much larger engines cars which has not been done before by one of the smallest capacity cars.

The second race was not without its challenges, leading from pole position, an off track excursion on lap one sent him dropping down to field to 4th, before coming back to second behind his friend Steve Platts – the reigning champion. The win and a 2nd place kept Adrian as the point’s leader by only a couple of points. There were no hard feelings though, with fellow competitor Mike Gardiner (Lotus Cortina) commenting that he “is so good” that he “deserved to win”.
Adrian had to win both races at the finals at Silverstone to be and is now declared the championship winner, having achieved the most points over the year. You can see his championship win reported in the October edition of Autosport magazine too. Congratulations Adrian - we wish you luck for next year!
