Clock ticking for F-Gas compliance | Dec 2010

As 2011 fast approaches, training provider, Eastwood Park, is reminding refrigerant and air conditioning engineers that the clock is now ticking for all to ensure they hold either the appropriate CITB or City & Guilds qualification, under the F-Gas and ODS Regulations 2009.  As a legal requirement, it is essential engineers meet next year’s July qualification deadline, so Eastwood Park is running extra CITB Construction Skills courses to meet demand and assist engineers qualify in time.

Eastwood Park Training Manager, Steve Dickson, is encouraging engineers to act swiftly:  “Work on stationary refrigeration and air conditioning equipment will only be possible after 4 July 2011 with a company and individual certificate as evidence that engineers are fully compliant and capable of conducting this work.  We are running extra courses to cope with the demand that will inevitably occur during the next six months.  However we are reminding engineers to book quickly to guarantee their places.  We are concerned that many will just leave it too late to qualify, unless they start doing something about it now.”

The F-Gas Regulations apply to and affect all sizes and types of businesses from sole traders and partnerships to larger, limited companies and public limited companies.  Businesses carrying out the installation or servicing of refrigeration, air-conditioning or heat pump equipment that contains or is designed to contain F-Gas refrigerants by law must obtain a company certificate and its engineers ensure they are fully compliant.

Steve Dickson added:  “Individuals must realise that failing to act now means they run the risk of working illegally come the summer next year and could face heavy penalties, including a substantial fine.”

Eastwood Park is a large, established training provider having been operating for over 40 years.  This enables it to be able to accommodate large numbers of engineers requiring training and combines the theory and practical assessments on the test rigs required on site.  It is also flexible enough to respond to groups needing bespoke training.
