Training NewsRoyal Marsden fire should focus minds on FIRECODE training at the highest organisational level | Jan 08“The recent fire at the Royal Marsden hopefully has focused minds on the practical realities of a major fire and patient evacuation within all healthcare organisations. Consequently it should also have helped raise the importance of an organisational Fire Strategy endorsed at the highest levels to ensure compliance with the new HTM 05-01 guidelines. These latest guidelines are in force to deliver appropriate integration of a fire strategy across the whole of a healthcare organisation.” comments John Thatcher, CEO and Director of Training at Eastwood Park. John adds: “While HTM05-01 provides an exemplar structure in meeting statutory fire safety obligations, there is also a need for healthcare organisations to develop bespoke fire strategies for the whole of their estate.” Eastwood Park offers a new consultative approach to Fire Safety training to assist with the implementation of an organisational Fire strategy to meet the requirements of FIRECODE and fire audits. Indeed, organisational wide and specific training on the implementation of an organisational Fire strategy has already been successfully delivered by Eastwood Park at trust level within England over the last few months. This consultative approach is in addition to two three-day courses for healthcare premises on Fire Risk Assessment and FIRECODE and our one-day Deputy Fire Safety Managers and two-day Fire Safety Managers courses. All courses at Eastwood Park for 2008 have been updated in line with the latest legislation and HTM guidelines, where applicable, and deliver vital up to the minute information and instruction. The new consultative fire strategy training days are just a couple of the 35 new courses being introduced by the training centre this year and anyone wanting information on these or a full calendar of courses should contact Eastwood Park directly by calling +44 (0)1454 262777 or emailing training@eastwoodpark.co.uk (www.eastwoodpark.co.uk).
