WTM4 - Decontamination of flexible endoscopes management

Duration
2.5 days

Prerequisite to attending the course
Delegates attending the course should be working in an endoscopy environment and have some operational knowledge of endoscope decontamination.

Accreditation
The course is accredited by the City & Guilds of London Institute.

Who will benefit?
This course provides the knowledge and skills for people involved in the management of flexible endoscope decontamination, either in dedicated endoscope units or sterile services departments; Users, decontamination leads and estate managers.

This course does NOT cover the hands-on practice of decontamination or the periodic testing of automated endoscope reprocessors.

Aim
To provide delegates with the necessary skills and procedural practices to apply the guidelines in HTM 2030. Successful delegates will be awarded City & Guilds of London certificate 2295-32.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Describe the construction and use of flexible endoscopes used in medical practice
  • Examine the use of washer/disinfectors used for processing flexible endoscopes
  • Examine the operation of washer/disinfectors for flexible endoscopes
  • List the tests required in HTM 2030 that apply to flexible endoscopes
  • Understand the methods available to record process data from endoscope washer/disinfector machines and how this can be related to traceability systems
  • Perform microbiological tests as defined in the guidance
