SVE - Servicing ventilation equipment

The course is accredited at level 3 by EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd).

Who will benefit?
The course will provide an excellent foundation for medical engineering staff involved with the maintenance of ventilation equipment. As well as the ventilation equipment listed below, this programme covers the topics of electrical safety and equipment management common to all National Occupational Standards in the pathway.

Aim
To provide a working knowledge of ventilators used in theatres, ITU and special care baby units.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Describe the basic physiology of the lungs and the effects of positive pressure ventilation on the body
  • Differentiate between different ways of supplying gases to a ventilator and describe characteristics of blenders and medical gas hoses
  • Describe the mechanical principles of patient ventilation
  • Name a number of theatre, ITU, SCBU and transport ventilators, differentiate between the types, briefly explain their function and be aware of their typical maintenance requirements
  • Define a list of physical and biological safety precautions that need to be observed when working with ventilatorsm

Other information
Equipment will include patient lung ventilation device management, medical gas hoses, medical gas systems and safety, theatre ventilators, ITU ventilators and breathing circuits.
