STO1 - Transportable steam sterilizers - operators

The course is accredited by the City & Guilds of London Institute, certificate 2295-18.

Who will benefit?
People involved in the use of bench top washer transportable steam sterilizers. These may include treatment room nurses, GPs, dentists and nurses, podiatry staff, SSD staff and any other person who is responsible for the decontamination of reusable medical devices.

Aim
To enable delegates to meet their responsibilities as operators as defined in
HTM 2010/2030/HTM 01-01 Part A.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Understand the complete reusable medical device decontamination process
  • Understand and list periodic daily testing on transportable steam sterilizers as recommended in HTM 2010/2030/HTM 01-01 Part A
  • Define their role and responsibilities as recommended in HTM 2010/2030/HTM 01-01 Part A       
  • Explain the reasons for correct usage and loading of decontamination equipment
  • Understand the importance of and maintain log books for equipment

Other information
Practical exercises form an important part of this course, enabling delegates to fulfill their role. If delivered in-house at client premises, equipment must be provided by the client to accomplish this.
