Accreditation
This course can be undertaken as part of a Spirax-Sarco modular BTEC certificate course.

Who will benefit?
Designers, energy managers, plant engineers, maintenance engineers and boiler house operators involved in the planning or upgrading of boiler plant and those responsible for the day to day running of steam boilers, large and small.

Aim
To give an understanding of the 'wet side' of the boiler and to outline trends in the management and control of boiler plant in order to achieve high levels of efficiency and safety with smooth operation.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Identify boiler types and fittings
  • Demonstrate how to apply feedwater treatment, deaeration and storage
  • Explain boiler water level control and alarms
  • Operate blowdown controls, vessels and pits
  • Discuss heat recovery systems and energy management
  • Explain the HSE Guidance Notes PM5 (soon to be updated) and PM60 and SAFed publication PSG2 in relation to steam boilers and plant controls

This course is delivered at the Spirax-Sarco training centre, Cheltenham.
