SHGC - Safe handling of gas cylinders (HTM 02)

Who will benefit?
The course is designed for porters, nurses and other staff whose role includes the use of medical gas and medical gas cylinders.

Aim
This course will provide the delegates with the knowledge, understanding and skills to handle and transport medical gas cylinders safely whilst conducting their role.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Store medical gas cylinders safely in accordance with HTM 02
  • Transport medical gas cylinders safely in accordance with HTM 02
  • Explain the appropriate size and type of trolley to transport medical gas cylinders
  • Demonstrate how to transfer regulators ensuring a leak free connection
  • Identify faulty/suspect medical gas equipment
  • Demonstrate how to conduct a routine inspection of a gas cylinder
  • Explain their role in relation to medical gas cylinders in accordance with HTM 02
  • Identify various gas cylinders via the colour coding on the shoulder of the medical gas cylinders in accordance with HTM 02
  • Explain the procedures in relation to medical gas cylinders in the event of a fire
  • Explain the various stages of the medical gas alarm panel and be aware who should be advised when the alarm sounds

Other information
The course consists of a presentation followed by a practical session and a short multiple-choice test. The course complies fully with the requirements of HTM02. Records of those trained are kept on our database should you need confirmation of training at a later date. We are also able to inform you when refresher training is due.
