SDOU - Servicing dental operating units

Introduction
The course has been specifically designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and practical experience required to meet the National Occupational Standard in Servicing Dental Equipments.

Accreditation
The course is accredited at level 3 by EAL (EMTA awards Ltd).

Who will benefit?
The course will provide an excellent foundation for medical engineering staff involved with the maintenance of dental equipment.  As well as the dental equipment listed below, this programme covers the topics of electrical safety and equipment management common to all National Occupational Standards in the pathway.

Aim
To provide the underpinning knowledge required in order to safely and competently undertake servicing activities on a range of dental equipment. To provide practical experience of direct relevance to the servicing of dental equipment.

Objectives
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the requirements for the safe management of dental equipment.
  • Perform tests on dental equipment to verify safety.
  • Describe the principles of operation and applications of a range of dental equipment.
  • Apply appropriate techniques for functional testing, calibration, fault finding and scheduled servicing of a range of dental equipment.

Other information
Equipment will include suction/aspiration devices, drilling units/carts, floor utility service units, scalers, polymerisation units, amalgamators, amalgam separators, dental hand pieces, dental air compressors, dental lighting and dental ancillary equipment.
