SCE - Servicing cardiovascular equipment

Introduction
This course has been specifically designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and practical experience required for the National Occupational Standard in Servicing Cardiovascular Equipment.

Accreditation
The course is accredited at level 3 by EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd).

Who will benefit?
The course will provide an excellent foundation for medical engineering staff involved with the maintenance of cardiovascular equipment.  As well as the cardiovascular equipment listed below, this programme covers the topics of electrical safety and equipment management common to all National Occupational Standards in the pathway.

Aim
To provide the underpinning knowledge required in order to safely and competently undertake servicing activities on a range of medical electronic cardiovascular equipment and to provide practical experience of direct relevance to the servicing of cardiovascular equipment.

Objectives
On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the requirements for the safe management of medical electrical equipment
  • Perform tests on medical electrical equipment to verify electrical safety
  • Describe the operating principles and applications for a range of medical electronic equipment
  • Apply appropriate techniques for functional testing, calibration, fault finding and scheduled servicing of a range of medical electronic devices

Other information
Equipment includes cardiac pacemakers, external defibrillators and diagnostic electrocardiographs, with course content covering electrical safety, cardiovascular physiology, ECG monitoring, pulse oximetry, invasive and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring.
