LVAPR - Authorised person - LV (HTM 06-02) refresher

Duration
3 days.

LVAPR refresher training is required every three years.

Accreditation
The course is accredited by EAL (EMTA Awards Ltd). An assessment is carried out at the end of the course.

Who will benefit?
Electricians, maintenance staff and project engineers who have previously attended a full Authorised Persons Low Voltage electrical course within 5 years.

Aim
To present the essential information contained in HTM 06, Electrical Services Safety, Supply, Distribution and Management and other NHS guidance on this subject, in a concise and easily assimilated form. To create a forum for delegates to discuss their own HTM 06 related issues and manage these systems safely and economically.

Objectives
The training will cover safe operating procedures relating to the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment using ‘hands on’ practical exercises.
  • Apply the main applications for electrical services in healthcare premises and explain why the need exists
  • Apply management responsibilities in relation to electrical services in accordance of the defined role of the Authorised Person in the DH guidance
  • Describe health and safety issues relating to the operation of electrical systems and any legislative requirements relating to those issues and means of compliance
  • Describe how electrical systems can be operated to minimise safety and operational risk to patients, staff and the operators of the system.
  • Manage essential monitoring and maintenance procedures required for the safe and efficient operation of plant the components of the electrical services
  • Use sources of guidance associated for the safe and efficient operation of plant components
  • Apply the main requirements of resilient electrical systems, and other specialist electrical services including emergency generators, IPS and UPS and their relevance to the health of patients and staff in accordance with HTM and HBN guidance
  • Manage and control works on electrical services systems used in healthcare premises in accordance with the defined role of the Authorised Person in the DH guidance
  • Manage and write electrical permits for a variety of electrical works commonly experienced by an Authorised Person
  • Describe principle methods of electrical earthing and methods of protecting electrical circuits
  • Identify essential components of electrical services systems typically used in healthcare premises
