Who will benefit?
Introduction to decontamination operations is intended for attendees on DLR - Decontamination lead role and responsibilities who do not meet the entry requirements for that course.

It is ideal for anyone who has a need to know about decontamination but who is not familiar with it - members of the board, estates and facilities managers from other backgrounds, other stakeholders.

Aim
To provide you with a broad, high-level understanding of the purpose and constraints on decontamination practices and in particular the role of the sterile services deparment (SSD) in the broader healthcare setting.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Describe the basic regulatory framework for decontamination with particular reference to the sterile services department
  • List the key sterilization and washer-disinfector processes and explain their necessity
  • Describe the properties of "clean" steam
  • Describe the operating principles of porous load sterilizers
  • State the weekly periodic tests required
