FGAS - CITB safe handling of refrigerants / F-Gas certification

Introduction
Under F-Gas regulations, the certification to handle refrigerant gases became mandatory as of July 2007. Special emphasis is placed on safety and the environmental aspects of refrigerants.

Accreditation
The course is accredited by CITB Construction Skills. It will enable the operative to safely handle refrigerant gases and is also an acceptable qualification for direct entry on the ACRIB register of competent personnel.

Who will benefit?
Engineers who require a fast track approach to be able to maintain and decommission refrigeration systems.

Aim
To explain the relevant principles of vapour compression refrigeration and to provide delegates with the practical skills to enable them to perform essential maintenance and fault-finding, and to gain the mandatory F-Gas certificate in refrigeration.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Understand the relevant legislation, regulations and best practice for handling refrigerants
  • Understand the environmental impact of refrigeration
  • Describe the principles of operation of the vapour compression cycle
  • List the relevant properties of refrigerants and oils
  • Describe the typical components fitted to a refrigeration system
  • Understand the use of refrigeration servicing instruments
  • Diagnose and correct typical system faults
  • Handle refrigerants safely; recovery and charging of systems
  • Pressure test and evacuate fridge systems
  • Describe the operation of dry expansion (DX) chillers and water chillers
  • Understand the need for cooling towers
  • Carry out appropriate pipework and brazing techniques

Other information
Two passport size photos, fire retardant overalls and eye protection are required for this course.
