ENWS - Managing legionella in building water systems (HTM 04 and ACoP L8)

The course is accredited by the City & Guilds of London Institute.  An assessment is carried out at the end of the course.

Who will benefit?
All staff involved in the management and operation of building water systems and who may be appointed as Authorised Person, Responsible Person, Nominated Person for building water systems.

Aim
To enable delegates to apply the relevant statutory instruments and guidance whilst carrying out the duties of the Authorised Person, Responsible Persons, Nominated Person for building water systems as set out in the Health and Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice (ACoP L8). Delegates will also be able to implement HTM04; The Control of Legionella in Healthcare premises.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Discuss medical aspects such as occurrence, ecology and transmission
    routes of legionella and other water borne diseases
  • Discuss legal requirements by reference to statutory and non-statutory
    documents, guidance notes and other relevant guidance
  • Identify areas of concern relating to the building water system such as
    hot and cold water systems, cooling towers, humidifiers, fire hose reels
    and other problematic areas
  • Describe system modifications which may be made to resolve areas of concern
  • List types of disinfection used to disinfect water systems  
  • Calculate appropriate quantities for disinfection to achieve PH correction
  • Describe methods of sampling and testing of water, i.e. T.V.C. dip slides,
    legionella sampling
  • Describe a risk assessment, maintain a logbook and use a method of
    recording information that will comply with current legal methods

Delegates should consider enrolling on a series of one day courses designed to provide focus on specialist areas.  The one day programmes include:

ENRA - Risk assessment - log book awareness
WRBS - Water regulations for building water systems
ENCT - Water borne diseases in cooling towers
ENDW - Disinfection of water systems
