ELLM - Lift machinery safety & servicing (HTM08-02) LOLER & SAFed

Introduction
The course is designed for staff with no previous knowledge of the principles of lift machinery.


Accreditation
The course is accredited by BTEC.

Who will benefit?
Engineers entering the repair or installation fields for electric traction and hydraulic lifts; either as a new role, or due to a change in duties.

Aim
To give delegates a basic understanding of the fundamentals of lifts and the importance of their electrical and mechanical safety features. The programme follows the basic principles and safe methods for fault finding, maintenance and inspection, highlighting areas the lift engineer should be aware of and the correct safety procedures to be followed. Lift safety is of prime importance and will be a recurrent theme throughout the course programme.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
  • Use the necessary regulatory and guidance documents for lift maintenance
  • State the options and time periods for maintenance
  • Discuss electrical and mechanical safety features
  • Determine safe methods of working in the shaft and lift motor rooms, including the protection of staff and the public whilst work is being carried out
  • Identify inspections requirements
  • State the need for a maintenance schedule
  • Apply electrical and mechanical safety features
  • Demonstrate safe methods of working in the lift environment taking due regard for themselves, colleagues and members of the public
  • Maintain and service a lift to the required current standards
  • Identify and locate fault conditions within a lift installation


All of the above will be carried out in accordance with current standards and codes of practice used in the electrical lift industry, referring to British Standards and Health and Safety regulations.

Other information
The course combines practical and classroom work. Overalls and hard hats will be required.
