Quarterly testing of large porous load sterilizers to HTM guidance | STM2

Who will benefit?
National Health Service staff or contractors required to perform the duties of a Test Person as defined in HTM 2010.

Aim
To enable delegates to carry out the recommended daily, weekly and quarterly testing procedures on large* porous load sterilizers in accordance with HTM 2010 and obtain the City & Guilds of London Institute certificate (229506)
* Large porous load sterilizers are those that can accommodate one or more rectangular boxes measuring 300 x 300 x 600mm of volume 54 litres.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
- Describe the decontamination process
- Explain the relationship between the saturation temperature and pressure of steam
- Define terms most commonly used in basic microbiology and sterilization
- Assess possible hazards associated with the use
and maintenance of biomedical equipment and describe measures for
their minimisation.
- State the main responsibilities of key personnel as defined in HTM 2010
- State safety precautions applicable when maintaining and testing sterilizers
- Calibrate and use appropriate test equipment
- Carry out periodic testing
- Complete test records and correctly interpret the results

Other information
A basic knowledge of large porous load sterilizers, as provided on STM0, would be an advantage before attending this course.
