Who will benefit?
All staff involved in the maintenance and servicing of medical therapeutic equipment commonly used in physiotherapy departments who wish to achieve the Engineering Maintenance Level 3 S/NVQ via the Servicing Medical Equipment Pathway

Aim
To provide the underpinning knowledge required in order to safely and competently carry out servicing activities on a range of medical therapeutic equipment and to provide practical experience of direct relevance to the Servicing Medical Therapeutic Equipment S/NVQ (unit number 70).

- Shortwave therapy
- Nerve and muscle stimulators
- Interferential therapy
- Ultrasound therapy
- Physiotherapy lasers
- Heat and UV treatment lamps
- Exercise equipment, traction devices and hydrotherapy

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
- Identify the requirements for the safe management of dental equipment.
- Perform tests on medical therapeutic equipment to verify safety.
- Describe the principles of operation and applications of a range of medical therapeutic equipment
- Apply appropriate techniques for functional testing, calibration, fault finding and scheduled servicing of a range of medical therapeutic devices.
Accreditation
This course has been specifically designed to provide underpinning knowledge and practical experience required for the National Occupational Standard in Servicing Medical Therapeutic Equipment (unit 70). Candidates will also gain knowledge understanding and experience to help them meet the requirements of the core and pathway specific mandatory units for the Engineering Maintenance S/NVQ.
