Who will benefit?
Aspiring and newly appointed staff in estates and facilities departments who are involved in building or engineering operation or maintenance, including the management of contracted out services.

Aim
To enable a newly-appointed Estates Officer engaged in an operational role to gain an appreciation of the organisation role and objectives to the wider health service and understanding of the specialist functions required in healthcare estate management

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:

  • Explain the role of estates management within the structure of the health service
  • Use risk assessment techniques to manage systems
  • Recognise the ways in which building services and other engineering systems are used in healthcare and the reasons behind the particular applications
  • Understand the principles and techniques of maintenance management
  • Understand the principles applied to environmental strategy in the NHS, and the management of environmental risk
