Managing Legionella in Building Water Systems | ENWS

Who will benefit?
All staff involved in the management and operation of building water systems and who may be appointed as Responsible Persons for building water systems.

Aim
To enable delegates to apply the relevant statutory instruments and guidance whilst carrying out the duties of the Responsible Person for building water systems as set out in the Health and Safety Executive’s Approved Code of Practice. Delegates will also be able to implement HTM04; The Control of Legionella in Healthcare premises.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
- Discuss medical aspects such as occurrence, ecology and transmission routes of legionella
- Discuss legal requirements by reference to statutory and non-statutory documents, guidance notes, etc.
- Identify areas of concern relating to the building water system such as hot and cold water systems, cooling btowers, humidifiers and fire hose reels
- Describe system modifications which may be made nto resolve areas of concern
- List types of disinfection used (and carry out calculations) for pH correction and amount of disinfection to use
- Describe methods of sampling and testing of water, i.e. T.V.C. dipslides, legionella sampling.
- Carry out a risk assessment, maintain a logbook and use a method of recording information that will comply with current legal methods
Accreditation
The course is accredited by the City & Guilds of London Institute. An assessment is carried out at the end of the course.
