New entrants to the healthcare sector who will be employed in maintaining biomedical equipment.

Aim
To provide delegates with a good understanding of biomedical equipment principles, applications and maintenance procedures.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
- State the physiological reasons for using a particular piece of biomedical equipment
- Describe the principles of operation of a wide range of biomedical equipment
- Perform tests to assess the performance and safety of such equipment
- Assess possible hazards associated with the use and maintenance of biomedical equipment and describe measures for their minimisation.
Accreditation
This course has been specifically designed to provide a BTEC qualification from Edexcel awarding body

Other information
The course is ideally suited to those with some knowledge of instrumentation but lacking experience with biomedical systems. Staff with an electrical background employed in acceptance and/or routine safety testing of equipment will also benefit.
Delegates will gain confidence in working with biomedical equipment by carrying out structured practical assignments on equipment covered during the course.
NB: This course can now be taken as two 4.5 day modules. In order to qualify for the BTEC accreditation delegates must complete the two week training within a 12 month period.

What next
This course will provide the underpinning knowledge and skills to undertake other courses in the Eastwood Park medical equipment portfolio, or manufacturers' own courses.
