Release of Trapped Passengers | ELTP

Who will benefit?
Selected individuals who will be required to release trapped passengers in a building’s lifts.  This could include Estate Officers, Maintenance Technicians, Porters, Security Staff and Caretakers.

Aim
To provide delegates with the necessary basic skills and knowledge to carry out the release of passengers from lift installations in a safe and responsible manner. It follows the basic principles for the manual release of trapped passengers that will apply to all electric traction and hydraulic lift installations with the power isolated.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:

  • Work in accordance to safe working procedures with electrical equipment
  • Work in accordance to safe working procedures with rotating machinery
  • Safely work with other personnel
  • Release passengers from traction and hydraulic lifts
  • Leave the lift installation in a safe condition

Accreditation
A certificate of competence will be issued to successful delegates.

Other Information
BS7255 suggests that the release of passengers should only be undertaken by a person who has been approved by the management and assessed by independent training for such activities. Lifts are inherently dangerous and safety will be of prime importance during the course. The course is mainly practical, with some classroom work and assessment work.
