Deputy fire safety managers course | EHDM

Who will benefit?
Staff in small hospitals or other healthcare premises who have been appointed as, or are about to be appointed as, the deputy fire safety manager.

Aim
To provide delegates with the information and guidance needed to undertake their duties as the deputy fire Safety manager (Responsible Person) required by the Fire Safety Order and FIRECODE.

Objectives
Delegates will acquire the skills and knowledge to:
- Understand the duties and responsibilities of the deputy fire safety manager
- Develop and prepare site specific evacuation procedures in conjunction with the fire safety manager;
- Implement the trusts fire strategy for buildings under their jurisdiction;
- Develop skills to co-ordinate Fire safety training, Evacuation exercises associated with the ‘dependency’ of the patients to accord with the trusts fire strategy and Fire emergency evacuation procedures for patient’s visitor and the disabled
- Prepare and process fire incident reporting procedures to the Department of Health
- Develop a basic understanding of the statutory and mandatory requirements of the Fire Safety Order and Firecode for which they are responsible;
- An understanding of the fire risk assessment process and fire safety audits required by the Fire Safety Order and the mandatory requirements of Firecode.

FIRECODE HTM05 - Managing healthcare fire safety requires Chief Executive to nominate a member of staff to undertake the duties of the Fire Safety Manager and Deputy Fire Safety Managers to ensure there is always a key decision-maker available when premises are occupied.
The course will provide such persons with the knowledge they require for the post of deputy fire safety manager.
The course will include an overview of the Fire Safety Order and the principles of undertaking fire risk assessments and fire safety audits in healthcare premises.
