| Decontamination Decontamination Level 3 N/SVQ | DNVQ Who will benefit? The full level 3 NVQ is appropriate for those who are actively involved in the collection, preparation, loading and decontamination of surgical instruments and medical devices. It covers both manual cleaning of instruments as well as the loading and operating of decontamination equipment in a Sterile Services or Decontamination Department. Candidates must also prepare and carry out sterilization of re-usable medical devices. What is an NVQ? It is a competency based qualification and not a training programme. Candidates must provide evidence that they consistently apply their skills and knowledge as defined in the occupational standards. Each candidate will be allocated a NVQ assessor who will be responsible for helping them to submit evidence and will assess them to confirm competence against the NVQ standards. All evidence must come from the candidate’s workplace and will be assessed on site. To achieve the full NVQ, candidates must undertake 10 Units of which 6 are mandatory and 4 are chosen from a selection. How long will it take to do? The candidate can proceed at their own pace in partnership with their assessor, but on average it normally takes between 12 and18 months to collate sufficient evidence for a level 3 NVQ, depending on the competence and commitment of the candidate. Evidence provided by the candidate needs to be submitted within 2 years Membership of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) |
